Councilman Bill Hance
The City of Elko is saddened to announce the passing of Councilman William (Bill) J. Hance, age 55. According to Boise County Coroner Mike Johnson, Councilman Hance had become ill and passed away while visiting Idaho on July 14, 2021.
Councilman Hance was elected in 2018, and began serving his 4-year term on January 1, 2019. Mayor Reece Keener stated, “We are stunned and saddened by Bill’s sudden passing. Councilman Hance was a dedicated public servant who loved his community, and always sought to do the right thing. He will be greatly missed.”
Councilman Hance’s unexpected death creates a vacancy on the Council. City Staff will research the process concerning vacancies and make a recommendation at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 27th
